Team SaveLife conducted a free-of-cost Medical Camp on the 18th of March 2018 in Thatta, Sindh. The primary aim of this initiative was to provide access to basic medical necessities for the underprivileged, owing to the outbreak of various diseases amongst the rural population.

The team catered to over 250 patients in a single day, diagnosing various cases of Hepatitis B and C, Diabetes and various issues related to eyes. All patients were prescribed appropriate treatments, and Hashmani’s Hospital being a specialist in eye-care, offered to perform free-of-cost Cataract surgeries of the patients in their Karachi branch.

The outlining phase of the project began in late January, when the team sought an idea that would best capture the essence of CSR. All things aside, the primary concern for any person would be Health, irrespective of any other factor. But more importantly, the health of those who do not have the resources to look after theirs.

The next step, and perhaps the backbone of the entire project, was obtaining the required finances. Only then, could the scale of the project be estimated. After contacting various listed companies and presenting our proposal, the team was glad to welcome Pak Gulf Leasing Company onboard. The fact that this was the first time PGL was contributing to such a cause, made it all the more important to live up to the company’s expectations. After receiving PGL’s generous contribution in the mid of February, the team moved forward to the next phase of the project.

The next phase of the project had two objectives; to seek a location, and people with prior experience and relevant expertise required for execution. The team approached hospitals with the proposal, and were successful in signing an agreement with Hashmani’s Medical & Welfare Foundation (under Hashmani’s Group of Hospitals) to provide trained medical staff in order to assist the team in execution. Upon mutual understanding, the location for the camp was determined to be Qadir Bux Bhutto Hospital, Thatta, with the execution scheduled in March.

The team then moved on to market the camp as well as make all necessary arrangements to make the execution process as smooth as possible. This included food, transport and power, all of which goes secondary to the actual project, but holds equal importance as far as operations are considered.

The next phase, however, was pivotal to the cause, which required the team to visit Thatta to create awareness, as well as inform the people there about the camp and encourage them to avail this opportunity. The team visited various local public places, distributing brochures and putting up banners (in English, Urdu and Sindhi). Prior to the actual execution, the team made two visits to the location, ensuring everyone in the vicinity was aware of our initiative.

Following all successful arrangements, the project was executed on the 18th of March 2018.

The team, accompanied by doctors, medical assistants and volunteers, left for Thatta at 6 a.m., with the camp scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Upon reaching the destination, final arrangements were made, making the place ready before the patients arrived. To the surprise of many, a massive turn-out showed up to the camp. After initial registration, the patients were directed towards the relevant doctor for their free check-up. This included check-ups for Eyes, Diabetes, and General concerns with respect to health.

The camp concluded at 4 p.m., after which the team headed back to Karachi.

As per the promise of SaveLife Foundation, over 40 patients were transported to Hashmani’s Hospital Karachi, where their surgeries were successfully performed. All the treated patients were immensely thankful to the team for their efforts.

The entire venture proved to be an enormous success for the team, as what started as a small project for a course, turned into a full-fledged campaign, surpassing all previously set targets.

The Team would like to thank all its partners, namely Hashmani’s Medical & Welfare Foundation, Pak-Gulf Leasing Company, Naya Pakistan, GenY World and IBA HR Club for their support and contribution to the cause.

Team SaveLife looks forward to organizing more camps and campaigns for the betterment of society and encourage everyone to #JoinTheCause
